Each DJ or company will run their business differently which can make price variations. things like what booking software they use, what equipment they use and how they repair/maintain this equipment but when deciding on any DJ there are a few things that we believe are essential to have that can add to the cost of hiring them..
Australian Business Number (ABN)
Although this is free it is something that your DJ should have. Having an ABN means they are a legitimate Australian Business. This will also help you if something goes wrong (they don’t show or an incident occurs) using their ABN can help you legally chase them up.
Public Liability Insurance
For us this is a MUST!! The chances of something happening are usually low but when alcohol, dancing, kids and fun are involved you can never be too careful. You would hate to have a speaker fall or fire start and one of your guests to be hurt so insurance to cover these rare incidents protects us all.
Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) Licence
Is an organisation that represents the interests of both the Australian recording artists and record companies. Having this is a licence that allows us to play any legally bought music anywhere in Australia. Most venues who play music should have this already but private properties and wedding function centres – those who only hire out for weddings often don’t so this covers us from the large fines that can be charged to all involved. If you are hiring any DJ you have all rights to ask to see all or any of these prior to hiring to help you feel you are getting quality.
